Small works in my studio often begin as studies, experiments, or moments of curiosity that escape the larger projects on my worktable. Over time, many of these small explorations have evolved into an ongoing series of tiny ceramic robots.
The robots began as a lighthearted diversion between larger sculptural and functional pieces, but they quickly developed personalities of their own. Each one is hand-built and slightly different—some optimistic, some confused, and a few that appear to be quietly judging the world around them.
While they may be small, these pieces bridge my interests in sculpture, storytelling, and the human tendency to see personality in objects. They also serve as a reminder that clay does not always have to be serious to be meaningful… although a few of these robots definitely take themselves very seriously.
